Intrathoracic rupture of hydatid cyst of the liver in children: a report of two cases

Abstract Background Intrathoracic rupture of hepatic hydatid cyst is a rare but dangerous complication. Its occurrence in children exceptional as diagnosis and management constitute real challenges. We report two cases intrathoracic children. Case presentation Our patients were respectively 12-year-old boy 9-year-old girl, known respiratory symptoms, diagnosed initially for pleuropneumonia. The CT scan established the pleural cavity first patient bronchial tree second. An emergency surgery was performed both. second developed broncho-biliary fistulas during post-operative course which necessitated re-intervention. A recurrence noted at follow-up patient. Conclusion serious complication can occur even needs high index suspicion. surgical approach remains controversial there lack consensus about best way management. Recurrence may despite appropriate treatment.
